AFTERSCHOOL ADVENTURERS BEHAVIOR PROTOCOL
The goal of the After-School Adventurers enrichment program is for our students to have another opportunity to learn and have fun in a safe environment. We feel that in order for the students to get the maximum amount of learning and enjoyment during their after-school experience, we need to institute a student behavior protocol. This protocol will make our goals and expectations for the program very clear to both students and their guardians.
For the after-school program to be successful it is very important that appropriate student behaviors exhibited during the school day are reinforced in the after school program. Our goal is to provide clear expectations for student behavior along with an explicit plan of action when behavior is inappropriate. We have identified two levels of inappropriate behavior. The first, TEACHER MANAGED behavior, is less serious in nature and is handled in the following way: the after-school teacher will give a written warning that allows parents and students to discuss behavior at home and will give the student an opportunity to change his/her behavior. The form should be signed and returned to the after-school administrator. The more serious behaviors, ADMINISTRATION MANAGED behaviors, will similarly result in a written warning and also an immediate removal from the class for the remainder of that period to sit with the After-School Administrator.
TEACHER MANAGED BEHAVIOR (warrants written warning)
~ Inappropriate language
~ Excessive calling out
~ Teasing
~ Refusal to work
~ Non-compliance
~ Running
~ Minor dishonesty, disruption or aggression
~ Unsafe or rough play
~ Disrespectful tone, attitude or body language
~ Disrespect towards property
ADMINISTRATION MANAGED BEHAVIOR (written warning and removal from class)
~ Aggressive physical contact
~ Fighting
~ Property destruction
~ Pattern of aggressive/profane language
~ Credible threats
~ Harassment of students
~ Major/chronic destruction
~ Major/chronic refusal to follow school rules
~ Major dishonesty or theft
~ Racial/Ethnic discriminatio
After two written warnings in an after-school class, the student and his/her guardian will be required to have a meeting with the after-school administrator to discuss behavior and appropriate actions. If that student gets a third written warning during the same class and cycle, he/she will be asked to leave the class or program for the remaining duration of the session. No refunds will be given in any case.
Parents may at any time speak to either the instructor or the after-school administrator for clarification or assistance in understanding behavioral expectations and helping the student to improve his/her behavior.
Parents and guardians, please discuss these policies in detail with your children to make sure they also understand the student behavior protocol, and that a consequence of his/her unacceptable behavior could be dismissal from the Afterschool Program. Additionally, on the registration sign up sheet, please initial that you and your child have read and understand, and will comply with this protocol.
