YMCA After School Program 2012-2013
The YMCA After School funding for next year has been cut. The YMCA did not select PS 295 as a site for their program. This is unfortunate news for participating parents and the PS 295 community. The YMCA has allotted 20 seats for PS 295 students to participate in the YMCA program at the PS 124 site for next year. Applications for these seats will be sent home in the Spring. We do plan to offer CBE After School Kids as an option for parents. This is a flexible program (either part or full time) paid for by you if interested. The PS 295 Grants Committee is also researching grants and other funds to support families in need of after school.

Wellness Tidbit - Get back to your roots! Did you know that when we eat vegetables, we’re eating all different parts of the plant? Foods like broccoli and cauliflower are actually flowers. Greens like kale and spinach are the leaves, while celery and asparagus are the stems. When you eat veggies that are in season during winter, you’re most likely eating the root of a plant! These are the parts that grow underground, so they’re strong and can survive a long, cold winter.
Beets - grate raw beets over salad, or roast until juicy and eat with goat cheese
Potatoes - cut into thin strips, brush lightly with olive oil and your favorite spices, then bake in the oven for homemade fries
Rutabaga/Turnips - cook up and mash like potatoes, add cooked apple and some cinnamon
Be well! And don't forget to read our blog at ps295wellness.wordpress.com for more recipes, tips and things to do!
