Cupcake Friday: September 29th!

Cupcake Friday is back. Let’s make the 2017-2018 year our best year yet!! Our first Cupcake Friday is Sept 29th. For parents new to PS 295, this treasured 295 ritual happens on the last Friday of every month. Our fabulous team of Cupcake Queens (and their attendants) set up tables on the 19th street courtyard during dismissal and sell cupcakes or other baked goods to our delighted kids and their families. The goal is that no kid leaves the cupcake tables empty-handed, so we count on families to bake and bring in sweet treats to sell.
Here’s how it works:

BAKE – Bake cupcakes or an easily portioned-out sweet treat. Drop them off at the main office the morning of Cupcake Friday, or bring them to the cupcake table just before 2:40pm.

SELL – The more sellers we have, the faster we sell cupcakes! If you can help, email Ryan at ryanmjgoldberg@gmail.com

BUY – JUST $1. We’ll accept all donations for our awesome cupcakes! Send kids to school with money to buy yummy cupcakes right after school.

Classroom Teacher Assignments 2017-18

Welcome back to school! What an exciting and busy time of year. Many families came out to the back to school “warm up” pizza party in Slope Park last night, and it was wonderful for our kids to run around meeting friends who will be in their classes for the coming school year. We now have the list of teacher assignments to share as well. It is posted here, and the staff page on the website will soon be updated with teacher contact information for the year. Here’s to a great start to the year– see you all tomorrow!

Cupcake Friday– May 26th

We only have two Cupcake Fridays left until the end of the year. Lets make these last two the BIGGEST! Cupcake tables will be out on the courtyard on Friday May 26th to kick off our Memorial Day weekend with a sweet treat. Bake and bring your cupcakes (or other easily portioned-out goodies) to the main office in the morning or straight to the cupcake tables at dismissal time. Can you help sell cupcakes? Great! The more people helping, the faster we sell. Email ryanmjgoldberg@gmail.com if you can help. See you this Friday!

Afterschool Band End-of-Year Performance 5/31

The BQCM After-School Band Program will be ending on May 31st with a performance. The students will be having their last class as a rehearsal and the performance for parents will be held in the auditorium immediately afterwards. Parents will be admitted to the auditorium starting at 3:45 pm. All students must return their instruments that day so they can be sent back on Thursday June 1st.

Dance Shares, May 24th and 25th

We look forward to seeing you all at our Dance Share this year. Our “informant” Dance Shares will give you an inside look at classroom techniques and an overview of the Language of Dance. These Dance Shares are all about the creativity of your children, their vision and their experience as a choreographer.

Our students have been working with Erica Essner, who is the Artistic Director of Erica Essner Performance Co-Op and a Teaching Artist for Arts Connection and Center for the Arts Education.

In order to reduce audience size, we have chosen to have two Dance Shares. Although all students will be attending both performances, we are asking that parents only attend that day on which their child’s class is performing.

  • Grades Pre-K-2 will perform on Wednesday May 24th from 9:00-10:30 am in the courtyard

  • Grades 3-5 will perform on Thursday May 25th from 9:00-10:30 am in the courtyard.

  • Students will be performing by individual class and will go in grade order

Clothing: All students have been asked to wear white t-shirts and black leggings or pants,  no shorts and sneakers. Grades Pre-K -2 should bring their t-shirts in by Friday May 12th so students will have time to decorate them before the share.

Field Day May 19th

Field Day has always been a community building activity.  This year we will be having Field Day on Friday May 19th. Field Day will include grades K – 5. All classes will travel by bus to the park and prepare for a day of fun-filled activities.  The location is Prospect Park near the Picnic House.  The Picnic House entrance is on Prospect Park West at 3rd Street near the Litchfield Villa. Buses with the students and staff will be leaving our school at 9:30 a.m.

We are expecting a day of fun-full activities.  Parents are encouraged to meet us at the Park.  Watch and cheer on your children as they participate in the games. Student t-shirts will be distributed on the morning of Field Day.  Sneaker should also be worn for safety reasons. All children need to have a signed permission slip.  Permission slips have gone home already.  Please check your child’s school bag.  PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD’S SLIP IS RETURNED TO THE TEACHER BY MONDAY MAY 15th.

Science Fair– June 16th, 5-6PM

PS 295 is hosting its Science Fair on Tuesday June 16th at 5:00 PM.  Our students are anxious to share their experiments and discoveries.  The Science Fair will be held in the gym from 5:00 to 6:00. The projects will remain on display for the next day so that classes will get a chance to visit the projects.
