Halloween Celebration and Parade

Wear your favorite costume for a school-wide parade around the school campus. Families and friends can meet at corner of 19th Street and 6th Avenue to cheer for everyone! Students will stay with their class throughout the parade.

Then everyone is invited to join a celebration in the 19th Street Courtyard with music and games, including class-hosted tables, giveaways, music, and a photo booth presented by your Family Teacher Association.

When planning your child’s costume, please follow these policies:

  • Students should come to school already wearing their costumes.

  • Costumes cannot interfere with classroom activities or distract from learning.

  • No masks, props, accessories, or full-face makeup allowed. Costumes cannot cover the face.

  • Costumes cannot restrict movement or vision.

  • Costumes cannot prevent or impede a student from sitting at a table, engaging in recess, or using the bathroom.

  • Costumes cannot include weaponry or sharp objects, including guns, swords, knives, etc.

  • Costumes must display school-appropriate content.

Half Day of School

PS 295 will have a half day of school to accommodate Parent Teacher Conferences (12:30–7:30pm) via Zoom. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Dismissal is between 11:20–11:30am on half days. Please promptly pick-up your child in the 19th Street Courtyard.

Parent Teacher Conferences

We encourage all parents, caregivers, and guardians to get involved at PS 295! Families are our closest partners in helping our students to thrive. A parent teacher conference is a short meeting between you and your child’s education team — held four times per year — to talk about your child’s academic performance and experience at school. Your student's teachers will provide a Zoom link and available times to sign-up.

Book Character Spirit Day

November is National Picture Book Month. Celebrate with PS 295 and dress up as your favorite book character!

Family Movie Night

Enjoy a family-friendly movie presented by your Family Teacher Association.

Doors open at 5:30pm. The 18th Street Courtyard will be open before that. The movie experience starts promptly at 6:00pm. The movie will be over by 8:00pm. Please use the 18th Street Lobby Entrance and remember to bring your photo id for entry. 2 ticket suggested donation. $2 treats, drinks, and popcorn. All proceeds support PS 295’s family and cultural programming.

Students will be voting in their classes for the October 2025 movie selection, which will be announced on Friday October 17.

Family Phonics Workshop

Join PS 295 for a Family Phonics Workshop that introduces our approach to phonics — helping students to understand how letters and groups of letters link to sounds — at all grades, 3–K to 5th Grade. The science of reading is clear that the most effective approach to building literacy includes consistent, age-appropriate instruction with a focus on phonics and decoding.

This workshop is immediately after Class Visit Day (8:30–9:15am) in your students’ classrooms. You can proceed to the Library to attend.

Since 2023, New York City Public Schools program, NYC Reads, is working to empower every student to become a strong reader, which is the single most important skill required for educational, career, and lifetime success.

Class Visit Day

Throughout the year, our school hosts Class Visit Days where parents and caregivers are invited into the classroom to meet the teachers, preview the curriculum, and explore current student projects.

Families: after morning drop-off in the 19th Street Courtyard Entrance, please sign-in with your photo id for entry.

In addition to these opportunities to visit the school in-person, we offer a variety of ways to connect with your child's teachers throughout the school year, including online video chats and phone calls. There is time allotted every week for teacher and family communication, so you can stay connected in-person and virtually with your child’s educational experiences.

Get ready for our first day of school at PS 295 Brooklyn! Please plan to arrive promptly at the 19th Street Courtyard Entrance between 6th and 7th Avenue. All students and families in 3-K, Pre-K, and Grades K–5 will be invited to visit the classroom (meet teachers, drop-off school supplies, and share a brief and reassuring goodbye) on the first day, September 4.

Preschool Meet-Up

Our rising 3-K, Pre-K, and Kindergarten families are warmly invited to join an informal gathering at PS 295 Brooklyn to get to know the teachers, staff, principals, and school programs.
