Behavioral Expectations to Support Student Learning
Our school community is very important to all of us. Each one of us must do our part to make sure that we create a positive school culture where all members of our community feel safe, respected and ready to learn.
PS 295 Behavior Initiative is a school-wide program to maximize academic achievement and behavioral competence. It is a school-wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and learning goals. The behavioral expectations chart provides several guiding principles for the behavior we expect in all areas of our school, which include respect, responsibility and safety. These expectations are taught within the context of character development and will be supported by bi-weekly circles and activities provided by Morningside 4Rs program.
Through Morningside’s 4Rs program and community circles we hope to create a school and classrooms where:
- Everyone feels that they are a treasured part of a community
- Everyone can cultivate the social and emotional skills they need to thrive and grow
- Everyone has a chance to learn from their mistakes and make amends
- No one is targeted or excluded as a result of bias, whether conscious or unconscious
When expectations are continually not met, teachers will reach out to parents to work collaboratively to improve behavioral outcomes. Consequences as outlined in the NYC Department of Behavioral Expectations that may be put into place when behavioral expectations are continually not met.
In setting standards of behavior and discipline procedures, PS 295 follows the NYC Department of Education’s Citywide Standards of Discipline and Intervention Measures.
